Fellowship Bio

I am a public health doctor in Scotland, splitting my time between NHS Grampian and various national teams including Public Service Delivery Scotland, Public Health Scotland, and the Scottish Government.

Fellowship Project

The project was hosted by NHS Grampian and the University of Aberdeen, and aimed to deploy the EDITH trial (investigating breast cancer screening using AI) across Scotland. My role was specifically to manage the progression of the trial through the Scottish information governance processes (the health and social care public benefit and privacy panel). Over the course of the year we have managed to collate all the evidence needed for submission to the panel, which has included determining data variables and designing data flows to be used in the study. The next milestone is to review the feedback from the panel and resubmit, hopefully enabling the EDITH trial to commence recruitment in Scotland. I have been able to use my time on the fellowship to undertake work alongside the EDITH trial. I have completed my clinical safety officer training, helped prepare funding applications for future research into the use of clinical AI systems at the University of Aberdeen, and participated in the regular journal club hosted by the HealthTech Innovation & Translation Lab at the University of Glasgow.
